A great family visit whatever the weather. There are four different types of Otter - the native British or the European Otter which is shy and elusive in the wild. Then there is the Asian Otters which are very playful and the large North American River Otters which love to show off. Some are rescued, some are bred here, some are part of breeding exchanges and others are just very old, in need of extra care and here to retire.

Watch them swim in the under water viewing area and enjoy the feeding times at 11.30 am, 2pm and 4.30pm daily. The keeper explains about the Otters and answers questions.

The Butterfly Farm is tropical landscaped gardens with ponds, waterfalls and bridges, Exotic plants and foliage make the perfect enviroment for tropical butterflies as well as small birds and other creatures.

Also at Buckfastleigh you can enjoy a scenic steam train ride alongside the River Dant. A Riverside walk beside the River Dant and a children's play area and maze can be enjoyed on the South Devon Railway site. School Parties can be catered for and special programmes can be arranged according to the area of study required.
