Discover this charming village, with sheep cobbled streets tumbling down to the tiny deep blue harbour. There is plenty to do here. Yu can step into th past as the quay back to the 14th Century, as do many of the cottages. The visitor centre has a 20 minute audio visual film where you can discover morew about Clovelly's history. Once it was a bustling fishing port and is still part of village life. Centuries ago the coastline was rife with smuggling and piracy. The fisherman's cottage is the place to visit to find out more. Details of fishing trips can be obtained from the visitor centre.
Charles Kingsl;ey wrote "westward Ho" here and The Water Babies was inspired here. Visit the Kingsley Museum to find out more. In season you can take a Land Rover to Clovelly Court the ancient Manor House of the estate, with its walled kitchen gardens and Victorian greenhouse.
All Saints Church dates from the 13th centrury you can watch wildlife, crafts people in the converted stable, take a costal walk, a boat or fishing trip.
Clovelly is owned by one family and has two cars for individually owned houses. The street is too steep for motor vechilse and for many years donkeys where the main source of transport. Nowadays goods are transported by sledge but children still ride donkeys in the summer. TYhe visitor centre houses a cafe and souviner shops, so that the village remains uncommercialised.
