This page is about Paignton Zoo in Paignton, Devon
Home to thousands of Animals from Armadillos to Wolfs, spread across 80 acres, Paignton Zoo was created in 1923 by Millionaire Herbert Whitley. At the time the Zoo featured a smaller selection of animals than today, although still impressive at the time with monkeys, zebras, baboons, zebras and many birds. The Zoo carried a strong conservation theme along with educational values as it does today.
Over the years Paignton Zoo has recieved a number of awards including the Silver 'Enjoy England' award, and was a finalist in the South West Tourism awards for excellence 2006.
There is certainly plenty to see and do - Whether its a walk through the tropics, across the desert or the forest. You'll learn about conservation and meet thousands of animals along the way. have a walk across the wobbly jungle bridge, take a ride on the train, go wild in the play areas. Of course, dont miss feeding time as well as the fun and educational Zoo keeper talks.
Watch out for the various events held throughout the year such as Crocodile Experience, Badger Watch and Reptile Week.
For a bite to eat or a drink try the Island Restaurant or Oasis bar. There are also a number of kiosks selling hot and cold drinks and ice cream. For a souvenir, try 'Gifts & Gibbons' the Zoos own gift shop.
