This page is about Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens in Abbotsbury, Dorset
This subtropical garden, built by the first Countess of Ilchester in 1765 as a kitchen garden, has since become a 20 acre site. Most of the exotic and hard to come by plants were found by the hunting descendent's of the first Countess.
Today you will find a selection of plants, both formal and informal with valley views from the woods, walled garden walks with Rhododendrons, Camellia Groves, Hydrangea and Magnolia collections.
This is well worth a visit for anyone with green fingers. Don't forget Abbotsbury received a Chelsea flower show award, demonstrating the quality and range of plants available for viewing.
