This page is about Corfe Castle Model Village in Corfe Castle, Dorset
The castle is situated on the Isle of Purbeck at the start of the world heritage site of the Jurassic coast and close to Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth.
The model village was opened to the public in 1966 and depicts the castle and village as it was in 1646. It took two years to build and was the brain child of Eddie Holland who had the idea when model villages were in vogue in the 1950's.
Most of the house have Purbeck stone roofs, each one with miniture hand crafted tiles. In the model of St Edwards Church you can hear the music and a choir. The Kings Tower on the castle stands 20feet above the level of the moat!
The model village and gardens are set in an acre and the garden is a haven for wildlife and birds, rare moths and bats which can all be watched from the bird hide.
Amongst the other attractions are giant family games, croquet lawn, fossil corner, historical items and life sized civil war soldiers guarding the castle!
Refreshments are served in the courtyard tea rooms along with locally made produce. There is also a gift shop. Wedding receptions and other such events of up to 70 guests can be catered for.
