Monkey World is a sanctuary for apes and monkeys. It was set up in 1987 by Jim and Alison Cronin
providing a stable and permanent home for abused beach chimps from spain . Monkey World works with foreign governments to stop illegal smuggling of apes.
At the present time there are 56 chimpanzees at Monkey World, the largest group outside Africa. Monkey world has rescued chimps from all over the world where they were being used in laboratories, as exotic pets, circus and animal photographer props. At Monkey World they are being rehabilitated into large social groups but they are not allowed to breed as space and funding is needed to rescue others.
On site there is a hospital and operating theatre. The staff at Monkey World are experts in primate rehabilitation and health and a local vet and specialists are bouth in when needed.
