The beautiful Georgian house called Lime Tree House was built by John and William Bastard after the Great Fire of Blandford in 1731. It was open as a home for the fashion collectiion in 19996 and awarded full registered museum status in 2001 and has gained a reputation for its beautiful exhibits and friendly atmosphere.
Each year exhibitions are mounted to display specific stories of the changing shape of fashion and often to show how under garments affect the shilhouette of a period in history.
Check the website for new exhibitions which ususally change every secound year.
The 2 new exhibitions in 2009 opening in february will be " A Victorian Life" and one commenting on "The Little Black Dress".
The Museums collection dates from 1730's to the 1970's. An acessories room has been added to show off specialist items. They are grouped in decades and include shoes, hats, fans, reticules, parasols etc. There ius always someone available to give further details and information on the orgins of the exhibits. There is a tea room and shop on the premises.
