This page is about Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh
Attracting over a millon visitors every year, Edinburgh Castle is situated on top of the volcanic 'Edinburgh Rock'.
The City of Edinburgh grew outwards from the Castle rock, with houses built in the area in front of the Castle, eventually extending down the Highstreet and other roads which later became known as 'Royal Mile', which was given its name after many Kings, Queens and other royalty travelled the road going to and from Edinburgh Castle.
There are some great views of Edinburgh to be had from the highest points in the Castle, so be sure to venture upwards and take a look. There are in fact excellent panaramas from most points in the Castle. A clear day will offer you views of the mountains in Fife.
The Castle has a rich History spanning more than one thousand years, and fits the classic childrens image of what a Castle should look like. There are many artifacts on display related to both the Castle and Edinburgh itself.
There are various events throughout the year held at the Castle - Check website for details.
