This picturesque 18th century village is situated in the New Forest on the banks of the river Beaulieu. Although it is most well known as the place where Nelson's fleet were built, the variety of things to see and do ensures something for everyone.
There are the Cottage and Buckler's Hard Story. Visitors can even stay in the Village at the 'Masters Builders House Hotel'. During your visit you will gain an insight into life during its shipbuilding era. There are exhibitions of models, pictures and artefacts making Bucklers Hard ideal for educational visits. Schools will benefit from the guided educational tours hosted by 18th century villagers.
Enjoy the beauty of this village rich in history, built by the 2nd Duke of Montagu in the early 18th century. The Village was built to provide a port on the banks of the Beaulieu River for the import and export of sugar from the West Indies. You can enjoy the village whilst walking around or perhaps on a river cruise taking you past Exbury Gardens - Well known for rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias.
The river and its bank form part of a National Trust nature reserve, so there is plenty of wildlife to be found. There are regular special events throughout the year, such as a Christmas Fair, Firework Displays and Auto Jumbles.
