This page is about Burley Village in New Forest, Hampshire
Nestling in the lea of a hill, Burley is a traditional New Forest village. With its thatched cottages, traditional shops and ponies and cattle roaming freely around the ancient forest tracks which have been used for centuries by locals and their livestock. Don't be surprised if you end up face to face with a four legged friend! Keep an eye on your ice creams!
Burley seems untouched by time, steeped in old customs and traditions with Witches, Dragons and Smuggling all parts the rich village history. During the late 1950s a Witch called Sybil Leek lived here, she was often seen walking around Burley in her long black cloak with her pet jackdaw on her shoulder. She eventually moved to America as the locals were upset by her presence. Being a gifted Psychic, Astrologer and Author she wrote many books on the occult and astrology. Look out for the shop named after her, which has her photo on display above its fireplace.
Beneath the 16th Century Village Pub 'The Queens Head' is a cellar believed to be one of the smugglers hideaways, found to contain bottles, pistols and coins.
Burley is situated in the Beautiful New Forest, which itself is well worth looking around with its vast acre upon acre of heathland hosting an impressive range of wildlife, plants and trees.
