The spectacular limestone gorge lies hidden at the heart of Nidderdale. The steep sided ravine is 80 feet deep in places. Water rushes over the rocks and boilders carving them into amazing shapes and the site has SSS1 status.
Dippersd and KIngfishers May be seen by the water and uner the tree mosses, lichens, ferns and wild flowers is home to small mammals, butterflies and sometimes deer.
The more adventurous tourist can explore Tom Taylor's Cave - with a torch - you can go down the wooden steps and after the dripping stalactite the cave closes in like the belly of a whale. It opens out into a tall "behive" chamber where you can scramble out into daylight. Torches are available at the ticket office. Cycles, child tandems and buggies are available to enable you to explore the area. Booking is recommeded. Camping is now available for up to 30 tents.
There is also a children's play area and a Restaraunt and tea room. Sunday lunches, home made cakes, lunches, and vegetarian dishes and teas.
Party bookings are available.
