Skipton Castle in North Yorkshire

This page is about Skipton Castle, North Yorkshire

Skipton is one of the best and most complete medieval castles in England inspite of a three year seige in the civil war.

It was the only Royalist strong hold in the North afdter the battle of Marston Moor.

They surrended on December 21 1645 and Cromwell ordered the removal of the roofs which werw replaced 10 years later by lady Anne Clifford.

In Cromwell's time Skipton was already ancient - a little market town huddled beneath the castle walls.

Come and explore this historic castle and visit the parish church where successive Lords of Skipton lie buried among them George Clifford, one of Queen Elizabeth's Admirals against the Armarda.

A worth while visit at any time of the year.
