Vindolanda

Here you can see the largest collection of Roman Buildings to be seen on Hadrians Wall. The latest discoveries are impressive military buildings, two Roman Bath Houses, A commanding officer's Residence, exstensive civilan remains and more ....

There are books and shoes, a child's sock, textiles, wooden combs and bread shovels!

You can also see a display of infrared photos of the most interesting writing tablets and watch a film about their discovery, conservation and interpretation.

One of the most well known is a Birthday party invitation from Claudia Severa to Sulpicia Lepindia ... she added her own greeting which is the earliest surviving writing in latin between two women in Western Europe.

You can also wander from the museum gardens and visit the reconstructed Roman Shop House and temple.

Take a break or enjoy a drink in the coffee shop or garden terrace and browse the extensive book and gift shop.
