D.H. Lawrence Heritage - A Novel Day Out!
D.H. Lawrence Heritage is a multi award winning visitor attraction which brings together a museum; heritage centre; art gallery; cafe; two gift shops and an exciting annual events programme.
The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is where the writer D.H. Lawrence was born in 1885. Today guides provide tours of this humble working class home which includes the parlour, kitchen, bedrooms and washhouse. The museum also houses a small collection linked to D.H. Lawrence including original watercolour paintings, his travel trunk and gravestone.
Lawrence's father was a miner in this busy coal mining community. Durban House Heritage Centre was once the offices for the major coal owners in the area and where Lawrence would pick up his father's wages. Today the building is an exciting heritage centre where Lawrence's life and experience can be explored as well as offering an art gallery and café.
Discover how D. H. Lawrence against the odds escaped this life to become one of the greatest writers of the 20th Century, travelling the world and challenging conventions at every step.

Winter Season (November to March) 10:00 - 16:00
All tours for The D. H Lawrence Birthplace Museum are now timed and bookable in advance by telephone.
Tours through out the day at: 10.15am, 11.15, 12.45, 1.45, 2.45 (except Sunday when this tour is a family tour), 3.45pm.
Tours begin prompt at these times (please try to arrive early), spaces are limited, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
