Here is an interesting look at the history of bicycles from 1819. Names such as the Hobby Horse, Bone Shakers and Penny Farthings - How uncomfortable were they? How big is a penny farthings wheels? Compare them with the most modern hi-tech carbon fibre machines of today!
Walk along an historic street, see a country garage, a 1928 Austin 7, early radio and bicycle shops, lamp collections and photographs along with posters and enamel signs are displayed to give a feel of the period in which the bikes are set.
Discover the story of the Dunlop tyre which introduces the tyred bicycle. In the exhibition hall you can see racing stars of the past. There are around 250* bikes on display at any one time and in the reserve collection are a further 250*. (*Approximatley). As well as the bicycles there are always themed exhibtions to view.
