More than 900 years of history are here in this former Cistercian monestry with 300 acres of award winning gardens which include Englands most high powered fountain. This Stately Home makes a stunning venue for Weddings and other Celebrations.
Forde Abbey is a living, working estate and a family home founded in 1140 as a Monastery and has been a private home since 1543. The Abbeys history can be seen in the architecture of the house and garden and is one of the most fascinating buildings in he Country.
Abbot Baldwin, the 3rd Abbot became Archbishop of Canterbury before his death during the crusades. His successor John Devonius was one of the most learned men of his time, playing role of confessor to King John.
As well as the stunning house and gardens, you will also find a nursury selling a range of quality plants. Also dont miss Forde Abbey Fruit - Pick your own from a range of strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, jostaberries and tayberries!
For refreshments there is a tea room. Also a Gift Shop and Pottery Exhibition for something to take home as a souvenir of your visit.
