This page is about Chessington World of Adventures in Chessington, Surrey
Chessington Zoo became Chessington World of Adventures in 1987 when the park was bought by Tussauds. The theme park features a good selection of rides that have been added to and developed over the past 20 years.
There are eleven different zones that the park is split into, each with its own distinct and very different theme:
- Animal Land
This is where most of the animals are, keeping the Zoo aspect of Chessington very much alive, helped by the active breeding program. You will find Gorillas, Lions, Tigers, Giraffes and Zebras along with Monkeys, Otters, Goats, Birds, Pigs and sea lions (Dont miss the shows).
- Beanoland
This area is all about the well known Beano comic - Visit Dennis's Madhouse and take a ride on the Bash Street Bus.
- Forbidden Kingdom
An egyptian styled zone - Be sure to ride Tomb Blaster an laser-shooting attraction. Also, don't miss Rameses Revenge!
- Land of the Dragons
Here you will find children's rides. The area is enclosed which offers parents the ideal time to sit and have a break whilst the kids run around without going out of sight. You will however find 'Dragons Fury' a 45mph roller coaster which apparently ranks 30th of the worlds top coasters!
- Mexicana
Home of the 'Rattlesnake' - a fast coaster with sudden movement.
- Mystic East
Dragon Falls log flume ride with two exciting drops, AND Peeking Heights where you can get an excellent all-round view of the park.
- Pirates Cove
Two rides feature in this area - Black Buccaneer and Seastorm. The first is a ride on a pirate ship that swings you up and down, the second throws you up and down and round and round in small boats.
- Toytown
Here you will find a number of rides for smaller children such as flying jumbos, a carousol, berry bouncers and tiny truckers.
- Transylvania
There are two rides in this area - 'The Vampire' a suspended roller coaster and BubbleWorks - An gentle ride which takes you on a tour of a soap factory.
New for 2008 is the Sea life centre.
As well as the rides and animals, you will of course find a good choice of places to have something to eat or drink, as well as various gift and novelty shops to suit all (Mainly in the 'Market Square' area of the park).
If you fancy a longer stay, you may wish to investigate the 150 room Hotel featuring a restaurant and swimming pool.
