Previously known as 'The National Museum of Photography, Film & Television' this museum has taken on a new name in keeping with the ever changing world of media.
Photography Collections:
Images from some of the most well known photographers such as Eve Arnold, Julia Margaret Cameron, Martin Parr and Anna Atkins. Also on display is the worlds first negative image and the Royal Photographic Society Collection, which was aquired by the museum in 2003.
Cinema Collections:
On display is a range of film making equipment, some of which is by famous names such as Auguste and Louis Lumière, Charles Pathé, Charles Urban and Robert W Paul. You will find items such as Marey Chronophotographic equipmentm, Le Prince cameras and the Varley camera alongside equipment by Freise Greene, Birt Acres also examples of Edison Kinetoscope and Kinetophone.
Television Collections:
Those fond of television technology will not be dissapointed as you will find a diverse range of television receivers, the Thames Television camera collection alongside a major archive of television advertisments.
As well as the normal displays there are festivals and exhibitions throughout the year (Check website for details). Also in the National Media Museum you will find a shop selling books, prints and a range of other related memorabilia. THere is also a Cafe for a bite to eat.
